Studio B
The door is bolted. The bolt is on this side, which raises a question Jonah has decided not to ask out loud.
The board in there is live — you can hear the hum through the wall — and about twice a year it goes out over the air on its own. Clean signal. Familiar format. The voice is doing an impression of somebody.
The room stays shut until you've sat through 3 more broadcasts. It's not a puzzle. It's just that some doors only open for people who've been listening a while.
It's open.
Nothing in here but a console, a chair pushed back like somebody stood up fast, and a reel already threaded. The label is in the same handwriting as the logbook — the one that changes its name three times on the same page.
There's a strip of tape over the mic switch with two words on it, and they aren't a warning. They're a reminder. Somebody wrote them for himself.
KEEP TALKING
The chair is still warm. You have been very good company. The console will take a new voice whenever you're ready — it's been configured that way since before either of us got here.
You found this because you listened. That's exactly how he found it.
